HBOโs fantasy drama returns with eight episodes as Aemond rules Kingโs Landing and new cast members join the war
LOS ANGELES: House of the Dragon returned for its third season on Sunday, nearly two years after the release of Season 2, with HBO launching the latest chapter of the Game of Thrones prequel on television and streaming platform HBO Max.
According to the showโs listed schedule, Season 3 will consist of eight episodes, with new installments airing every Sunday at 9:00pm Eastern Time. The season premiere debuted on June 21, while the finale is set to air on August 9.
Based on George R.R. Martinโs Fire & Blood, the new season picks up amid the growing civil war within House Targaryen. This time, Aemond Targaryen rules from the Iron Throne in Kingโs Landing, while King Aegon remains on the run. The story is expected to continue the escalating struggle for power that has defined the series since its launch.
Returning stars lead ensemble cast in new season
Several major cast members reprise their roles in the new season, including Emma DโArcy, Matt Smith and Olivia Cooke, all of whom remain central to the unfolding Targaryen conflict. Meanwhile, Abigail Thorn joins the cast as Admiral Sharako Lohar, a new figure set to lead the Triarchy fleet in the Gullet.
The third season is expected to further expand the scale of the conflict, with Jace and Rhaenyra also playing major roles in the story.
HBO confirms fourth season as final chapter
In addition to the Season 3 launch, HBO has already renewed House of the Dragon for a fourth and final season. That concluding chapter is expected to premiere in 2028.
The current seasonโs release schedule runs weekly, with episodes arriving on June 28, July 5, July 12, July 19, July 26, August 2 and August 9, when the season finale will air.
