Four European flights faced bomb threats on Tuesday, disrupting airport operations and triggering emergency security checks. However, all aircraft landed safely, and authorities found no explosives.
The incidents targeted flights heading to Poland, Spain and Bulgaria. The threats forced temporary airport closures, flight diversions and additional inspections.
Two warnings involved flights travelling to Warsaw. These included a Scandinavian Airlines flight from Copenhagen and a LOT Polish Airlines flight from London’s Heathrow Airport.
Meanwhile, Spanish airport operator Aena activated an emergency protocol following a bomb alert aboard a Ryanair flight. The aircraft was travelling from Manchester to Murcia.
Warsaw Airports Face Temporary Disruptions
The Scandinavian Airlines flight landed normally at Warsaw Chopin Airport. Authorities temporarily closed one runway while security teams inspected the aircraft.
Passengers safely disembarked as officials carried out checks. However, investigators found no explosives aboard the plane.
The LOT flight was diverted to Warsaw Modlin Airport following another warning. Officials temporarily closed the airport while passengers evacuated and security teams searched the aircraft.
Airport spokesperson Adam Szablowski confirmed that inspectors found nothing suspicious. Authorities subsequently reopened the airport and restored normal operations.
Other European Flights Undergo Security Checks
In Spain, the Ryanair flight landed safely in Murcia without incident. The Civil Guard inspected the aircraft and passengers before authorities lifted the emergency alert.
A Wizz Air flight from Bergamo, Italy, also underwent inspection after landing in Sofia, Bulgaria. Authorities activated security procedures following another bomb warning.
The incidents followed a separate threat against a Wizz Air flight on Monday. That aircraft, travelling from London’s Luton Airport to Sofia, diverted to Budapest.
Hungarian fighter jets escorted the aircraft to ensure its safe landing. Authorities later inspected the plane following the alert.
European authorities continue investigating the threats and their possible connections. Meanwhile, airlines and airports have maintained security procedures to protect passengers and crews.
