Police Recover Five Kilograms of Heroin
Police in Narang Mandi have registered a case against unknown suspects after a drone carrying five kilograms of heroin crashed in a residential area.
The incident took place in Mohalla Rafiqabad, which falls under the jurisdiction of Narang Police Station. Police were alerted after residents reported that a drone had fallen on the roof of a house.
Sheikhupura District Police Officer Bilal Zafar Sheikh said police teams reached the site immediately. The area was cordoned off, and the drone was taken into custody along with the recovered contraband.
According to the initial investigation, the drone was black and around three feet long. Police said a packet wrapped in yellow tape was found inside the drone. Reflective lights were also attached to the packet.
DPO Sheikh said the packet contained approximately five kilograms of heroin. He added that police had intensified patrolling in the area after the recovery.
Investigation Launched to Trace Drone Operators
Police have launched a detailed investigation to identify the suspects who operated the drone. Officials are also examining where the drone came from and where it was headed.
DPO Sheikh said it was too early to confirm whether the drone was being used for cross-border smuggling or for drug delivery within the city.
He said investigators were gathering evidence to trace the route of the drone. Police are also trying to determine whether the drone was part of a larger smuggling network.
Authorities believe the drone may have crashed because it was overloaded with heroin. The weight of the contraband is suspected to have affected its flight.
Suspected Links to Organised Drug Smuggling
Sources claimed the drugs may have been intended for smuggling to a neighbouring country. They described the incident as part of a long-running illegal trade in parts of Punjab.
According to sources, similar smuggling networks have operated in areas including Lahore, Sialkot, and Kasur for several years. Previous law enforcement reports have also suggested that payments linked to such drug smuggling operations were allegedly settled in Dubai.
Police said further facts will be confirmed after the investigation is completed. For now, a case has been registered against unknown accused persons, while efforts continue to identify and arrest those involved.
