Monsoon rains continued across several parts of Pakistan on Monday, bringing cooler temperatures while creating fresh challenges for residents. Heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, disrupted electricity supplies, flooded low-lying areas, and prompted authorities to issue flood warnings in vulnerable districts.
Meanwhile, officials urged residents to remain cautious as water levels continued to rise in major rivers and reservoirs.
Heavy Rain Brings Relief but Causes Disruptions
Several cities received heavy rainfall as the latest monsoon spell moved across the country.
In Taxila, strong winds and rain reduced temperatures, providing relief from the heat. However, the weather also caused electricity outages in several localities.
Meanwhile, heavy rain and windstorms affected Dera Ghazi Khan, where a room roof collapsed in Aman Mela village of Tehsil Darazinda.
According to officials, the incident injured four women and two children.
Water Levels Rise at Tarbela Dam
The ongoing rainfall also increased water inflows into Tarbela Dam.
According to the dam administration, the water level reached 1,499.21 feet, which is approximately 97 feet above the dead level.
Officials recorded a water inflow of 211,000 cusecs, while the outflow measured 162,400 cusecs.
As inflows continue to increase, authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
PDMA Issues Flood Alert
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warned that additional water could be released from Tarbela Dam within the next two days due to rising inflows into the Indus River.
Consequently, the authority directed the district administrations of Swabi and Nowshera to remain on high alert and implement precautionary measures.
The PDMA also advised residents to stay away from riverbanks.
Furthermore, officials warned the public against swimming, boating, and fishing in rivers during the current weather conditions.
Parents were also urged not to allow children to go near rivers or flood-prone areas.
Rain Affects Sindh and South Punjab
The monsoon system also brought rainfall and strong winds to several areas of Sindh.
In Gambat and nearby regions, rain raised concerns about possible damage to the area’s date palm crop.
Meanwhile, Kot Addu experienced heavy rainfall after strong winds swept through the district.
As a result, several low-lying neighbourhoods were submerged, while streets and roads in different parts of the city remained flooded.
Authorities Urge Public to Remain Cautious
Authorities continue to monitor the evolving weather situation as the monsoon spell affects different regions of Pakistan.
Officials have advised citizens to follow safety instructions, avoid unnecessary travel to flood-prone locations, and remain alert for further weather updates as rainfall is expected to continue in several areas.
