A district and sessions court in Karachi South on Saturday adjourned the hearing of a manslaughter case against Anmol alias Pinky after witnesses did not receive court summons. Jail authorities produced Pinky before the court through a video link during the proceedings.
The court postponed the hearing until September 19 and ordered officials to reissue summons to the witnesses. The case concerns the death of a man following an alleged drug overdose in Lyari.
Court Orders Fresh Witness Summons
The court had previously framed charges against Pinky in connection with the man’s death. However, the accused pleaded not guilty and chose to contest the charges before the court.
Authorities initially registered the case at Baghdadi police station on May 9 under murder charges. Later, the investigation officer removed the murder charge from the final challan submitted before the judicial magistrate in Karachi South.
The investigation officer instead included Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which covers manslaughter. The change followed a medical examination report concerning the deceased.
Case Began After Body Found in Lyari
Pinky was nominated as a suspect based on the complainant’s statement recorded in the first information report. According to the complainant, he found a man’s body lying on a footpath in Lyari.
The complainant further told police that officers recovered a small tin box from the deceased. The box reportedly carried Pinky’s name, which investigators cited while linking her to the case.
Meanwhile, the court’s decision to reissue summons means the proceedings will continue after witnesses receive fresh notices. The next hearing on September 19 is expected to focus on witness attendance and further progress in the case.
