KP Authorities Crack Down on Fake Medicines, Doctor Arrested Among Five Suspects

Fake Medicines

PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has made significant strides in combatting the illegal supply of unregistered medicines, culminating in the arrest of five individuals, including a doctor, suspected of involvement in the distribution of such medications to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Afghanistan.

According to an official statement released by the FIA, the agency conducted raids across various areas in the provincial capital and Shabqadar tehsil of Charsadda district, resulting in the confiscation of counterfeit and unregistered medicines valued at approximately Rs77 million.

One of the notable operations occurred in the Gulbahar area of the provincial capital, where the agency uncovered fake and unregistered medicines estimated at Rs43.5 million. This breakthrough was made possible through information provided by the alleged suppliers.

Following preliminary investigations, a doctor was apprehended from the group of suspects. Subsequent searches of the doctor’s residence in the Gulbahar area led to the discovery of additional medicines valued at Rs28 million.

Furthermore, raids conducted in Shabqadar yielded the seizure of counterfeit medications amounting to Rs5 million from various storage facilities. As a result of these operations, legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested individuals.

The statement also highlighted that the case would undergo further scrutiny based on the findings of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) upon examining the confiscated medicines.

This meticulous examination will provide critical insights into the nature and scope of the illegal pharmaceutical trade in the region.

The proactive measures taken by the FIA underscore the government’s commitment to upholding public health standards and combatting illicit practices within the pharmaceutical industry.

By dismantling illegal networks and enforcing regulatory protocols, authorities aim to safeguard the well-being of citizens and prevent the proliferation of harmful substances in the market.
