On Thursday, the Federal Directorate of Education in Islamabad announced that all educational institutions operating under its jurisdiction will now remain open every Saturday.
This new policy, which will take effect starting August 10, marks the end of the previous Saturday holiday.
According to the statement issued to the heads of Islamabad’s model schools, colleges, and rural area institutions, the primary aim of this initiative is to provide additional opportunities for remedial classes, foundational literacy, and the promotion of extracurricular activities such as sports and mental games.
The Directorate emphasized that while Saturday sessions will be held, attendance for students will be optional. The sessions are planned to run for two hours, during which staff members are expected to adhere to regular working hours.
This change is part of a broader effort to boost the productivity and efficiency of the federal education system, which has faced challenges due to the extended weekend breaks.
By instituting Saturday classes, the Directorate aims to address gaps in education and support students’ academic growth and well-being through structured and engaging activities.
