Islamabad has seen a dramatic increase in dengue cases, surging from 111 to 1,404 between September 9 and October 2.
In response, the Ministry of National Health Services and Regulations has issued an urgent advisory, highlighting the heightened risk of dengue transmission due to heavy rainfall and favorable weather conditions.
Dr. Zaeem Zia, District Health Officer (DHO) for Islamabad, reported that most breeding grounds for dengue larvae are found in homes, construction sites, and public areas.
To address the situation, DHO teams have conducted extensive operations, including Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) and dengue prevention awareness campaigns.
Preventive Measures Against Dengue:
- Wear long sleeves and apply mosquito repellents to avoid bites.
- Stay indoors after sunset and avoid areas with standing water, tall grass, and garbage.
- Seek medical advice rather than self-medicating.
- Contact field monitoring teams for dengue spraying in your area.
Symptoms of Dengue Fever: Health authorities urge the public to take necessary precautions and have directed medical facilities to set up dedicated counters for dengue-related cases. The district administration is actively working to control larvae through various methods.
Dengue fever can lead to a decrease in platelets and may become life-threatening if not treated promptly. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention emphasize the importance of seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms develop.
