Florida Man Dies After Surgeon Removes Wrong Organ in Devastating Medical Mishap

Florida Man

A shocking medical error resulted in the tragic death of 70-year-old William Bryan at Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Hospital. Bryan, visiting his rental property with his wife Beverly, was admitted for abdominal pain and recommended for surgery.

Led by General Surgeon Dr. Thomas Shaknovsky and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christopher Bacani, the medical team performed a hand-assisted laparoscopic splenectomy in August. However, in a catastrophic mistake, Dr. Shaknovsky removed Bryan’s liver instead of his spleen.

The error led to severe blood loss and ultimately, Bryan’s death. An investigation by Bryan’s widow’s law firm revealed alarming allegations:

  • Surgeons attempted to cover up the mistake by labeling the removed liver as an “enlarged spleen.”
  • Dr. Shaknovsky severed major blood vessels while removing the liver, causing immediate and fatal hemorrhage.
  • The surgeons misled the family by claiming the spleen was severely diseased and had migrated across Bryan’s body, suggesting the actual spleen was still in place with a small cyst.

Beverly Bryan’s law firm vows to hold those responsible accountable for the devastating loss. This incident has sparked outrage and demands for transparency and accountability within the medical community.

Key concerns:

  • How could such a critical error occur?
  • Why did the medical team attempt to conceal the mistake?
  • What measures will the hospital take to prevent similar incidents?

The Bryan family seeks justice and answers. This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of medical accountability and the need for rigorous protocols to prevent such catastrophic errors.

The incident has raised questions about:

  • Surgical safety protocols
  • Medical team communication
  • Accountability measures

As the investigation unfolds, the community awaits answers and assurances that measures will be taken to prevent similar tragedies.
