Health Rules
Dubai has recently introduced a significant update to its health regulations with the enactment of the Public Health Law, officially designated as Law No. (5) of 2025.
The legislation, which was approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, is designed to enhance public health security and strengthen the emirate’s preparedness in managing health-related concerns, especially in the context of international travel and communicable diseases.
The new law lays out strict health protocols for individuals entering Dubai, including tourists, residents, and transit passengers, with the objective of reducing the spread of contagious diseases.
The law mandates that all travelers comply with specific health regulations issued by relevant authorities upon their arrival. This includes providing accurate health information and cooperating with health authorities to ensure that any suspected or confirmed communicable diseases are reported immediately.
A key feature of the law is its emphasis on hygiene practices. Travelers are required to observe strict hygiene standards, including wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing when necessary, particularly in situations involving illness.
In cases where an individual is suspected to be infected with a communicable disease, they are prohibited from making contact with others and must refrain from further travel, unless it is to seek medical care. However, this travel must be pre-approved by the Dubai Health Authority.
The law also takes a firm stance against the concealment of infections or any intentional actions that may contribute to the spread of diseases. Such actions are subject to legal penalties under the new legislation.
The law further reinforces the collaborative effort between government entities, such as the Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Municipality, and the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority, to ensure the effective implementation of these measures.
This new Public Health Law will be enforced 90 days after its publication in the Official Gazette, superseding any previous regulations that may be in conflict with it.
The enactment of this law highlights Dubai’s commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all residents, visitors, and travelers passing through the emirate.
