Pakistan captain Babar Azam has reached another significant milestone in his international career. He has now equalled Imran Khan’s record for the most Player of the Series awards won by a Pakistani cricketer. Babar returned as Pakistan’s Test captain before the two-match away series against the West Indies. He replaced Shan Masood and quickly made his presence felt with the bat.
The right-handed batter finished the series as Pakistan’s leading run-scorer. He collected 193 runs across four innings at an impressive average of 96.50.
Babar endured a modest start in the opening Test. He scored 23 in the first innings before producing a determined half-century during Pakistan’s unsuccessful chase.
However, he responded strongly in the following match. Babar anchored Pakistan’s first innings with an important 88-run knock. His innings helped Pakistan secure a valuable 43-run lead.
He then finished the tour in style during the final innings. Babar scored an unbeaten 24 from 30 deliveries. His knock included two sixes and two fours. As a result, Pakistan comfortably chased the 75-run target.
Babar Shares Player of the Series Award
Babar shared the Player of the Series award with West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves. Greaves scored 111 runs across four innings and claimed seven wickets.
His bowling effort included a five-wicket haul during the first innings of the opening match. Meanwhile, the award marked Babar’s first Player of the Series honour in Test cricket.
The achievement lifted his overall tally to 10 awards. He previously won five in T20Is and four in ODIs.
Babar Joins Imran Khan and Wasim Akram
The milestone puts Babar alongside Pakistan legends Imran Khan and Wasim Akram. Both former stars have also won 10 Player of the Series awards across formats.
Waqar Younis follows closely with nine awards.
