Former Punjab Chief Minister and Member of the National Assembly Hamza Shahbaz Sharif met Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong at the Prime Minister’s House on Thursday. The meeting focused on Pakistan-China relations, regional developments and ways to deepen economic and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
The Chinese envoy arrived with a delegation from the Chinese Embassy for the meeting. Both sides discussed areas of mutual interest while highlighting the importance of continued engagement between Pakistan and China.
Hamza Reaffirms Pakistan’s One China Policy
During the meeting, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif congratulated China on the occasion of its 77th National Day. He also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the “One China” policy.
Hamza appreciated China’s long-standing friendship with Pakistan. He also acknowledged Beijing’s continued cooperation with the country.
The discussions reflected the importance both sides place on maintaining strong bilateral ties. Moreover, the two sides explored opportunities to further strengthen cooperation across several areas.
Trade and Investment Take Centre Stage
Economic cooperation also featured prominently during the talks. Both sides discussed ways to promote bilateral trade and investment between Pakistan and China.
Particular attention was given to strengthening cooperation under the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA). The discussions also covered the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The focus on trade and investment comes as both countries continue to pursue stronger economic cooperation. Therefore, improving existing frameworks remained an important part of the discussions at the Prime Minister’s House.
Chinese Ambassador Praises Hamza’s Efforts
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong commended Hamza Shahbaz Sharif’s efforts to further strengthen relations between Pakistan and China.
The two sides also discussed the regional situation during their meeting. Alongside these issues, they considered matters involving mutual interests and continued bilateral engagement.
Both sides agreed to maintain close contact in the future. They also agreed to continue dialogue on matters of mutual interest.

Officials Attend the Meeting
Xu Hongtian, Minister-Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy, also attended the meeting. Ali Raza Shah, Legal Advisor to the Prime Minister, was present as well.
The participation of officials from both sides added to the discussions on bilateral relations and cooperation. The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain close contact and continue dialogue.
