Security forces have killed at least 10 militants, including a woman, during counterterrorism operations in and around Gwadar, according to the military. The operations followed attempted attacks near the Gabd Border Crossing and in Gwadar city on October 22.
The military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said the attackers belonged to what it described as the Indian-sponsored group “Fitna al Hindustan”. Meanwhile, security forces launched clearance operations to protect residents and secure the affected areas.
Security Forces Foil Attacks Near Gwadar and Gabd Border Crossing
According to the ISPR, security forces engaged the attackers at multiple locations and prevented further attempts to undermine the state’s authority. The operations targeted areas around Gwadar city and the Gabd Border Crossing.
One civilian died during the attacks, while several vehicles sustained damage. However, the military said security personnel suffered no casualties during the subsequent operations.
The ISPR said the attackers intended to disrupt peace and obstruct development in Balochistan. It also stated that security forces had restored order after completing the clearance operations.
“By targeting these locations, terrorists sought to harm the very people they claim to represent and wanted to obstruct the development and prosperity of Balochistan. To protect residents and clear the area, Security Forces launched clearance operations in and around Gwadar city,” it said.
ISPR Comments on Female Attacker
The military also addressed the reported involvement of a female attacker in the incident. The ISPR alleged that militant groups exploit Baloch women for propaganda purposes and condemned what it described as the coercion of a Baloch woman into the attack.
The statement characterised such actions as contrary to Baloch and Islamic traditions. Furthermore, the military said the people of Balochistan had consistently rejected violence carried out in their name.
The ISPR added that counterterrorism efforts under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” framework would continue at full pace. The Federal Apex Committee approved the initiative under the National Action Plan.
According to the military, security forces and law enforcement agencies remain committed to eliminating what it described as foreign-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan.
PM Shehbaz Praises Security Forces After Gwadar Operation
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised security personnel for killing 10 militants and thwarting attempted attacks in Gwadar. He commended their professionalism and determination during the operation.
However, the prime minister also expressed grief over the civilian death. He prayed for the deceased person’s elevated ranks in the Hereafter and offered prayers for strength and patience for the bereaved family.
“The dedicated and brave officers and personnel of the security forces have foiled the nefarious designs of terrorists in Gwadar city and around the Gabd border crossing,” the prime minister said.
He also condemned the attacks, describing the militants as enemies of Balochistan’s development and prosperity.
“Terrorists belonging to Fitna al-Hindustan will never succeed in their nefarious designs.
“Operations to completely eliminate terrorism will continue at full pace under the framework of Azm-e-Istehkam,” the prime minister stated, adding that the entire nation stood shoulder to shoulder with the security forces and law enforcement agencies in their unwavering commitment to completely eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism.
Army Chief Vows Firm Action Against Militants
Separately, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir pledged continued action against what he described as Indian-sponsored militant groups.
During a visit to Corps Headquarters in Peshawar on Friday, the army chief received a briefing on the security situation and ongoing counterterrorism operations. Officials also briefed him on border management measures and the operational readiness of formations deployed in the province.
According to the ISPR, Field Marshal Asim Munir praised the morale and professionalism of officers and troops. He directed them to maintain vigilance and the highest standards of operational preparedness against emerging threats.
The army chief also vowed that security forces would strike militant outfits wherever they were found. His remarks reinforced the military’s stated commitment to continuing counterterrorism operations across the country.
The Gwadar operation follows renewed security efforts aimed at preventing attacks and restoring stability. Meanwhile, the government and military leadership have reiterated their resolve to continue operations against militant groups.
