Sister-Town Agreement Links Karachi With Inebolu and Araç
Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Municipal Corporation has signed a sister-town agreement with two municipalities in Türkiye to strengthen cooperation in urban development and municipal services.
The partnership connects Gulshan-e-Iqbal in Karachi with Inebolu and Araç, two municipalities located in Türkiye’s Kastamonu province.
The agreement is intended to create a formal platform for the three municipalities to exchange knowledge, technical expertise and successful urban management practices.
Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town Chairman Dr Fauad Ahmed and Dr Kemal Aydin signed the agreement during a ceremony attended by elected representatives and municipal officials.
Dr Aydin is associated with the Ibn Sina Institute in Türkiye and has been described by organisers as an adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The agreement represents a new international municipal partnership for Gulshan-e-Iqbal and is expected to encourage closer institutional links between Karachi and Turkish local governments.
Smart Cities and Modern Municipal Services in Focus
Under the agreement, the three municipalities will work together in several areas connected with modern urban management.
These include city planning, urban development, smart-city initiatives, technology and improved municipal services.
The partnership will allow officials from Gulshan-e-Iqbal to study development models used in Turkish municipalities.
Turkish officials will also be able to exchange experiences with their counterparts in Karachi.
The agreement is designed to promote practical cooperation rather than remain limited to ceremonial relations.
Municipal authorities are expected to share information about service delivery, technology-based management and development planning.

Speaking about the agreement, Dr Kemal Aydin said cooperation with Turkish municipalities could help Gulshan-e-Iqbal benefit from Türkiye’s experience in urban development.
He expressed hope that the initiative would contribute to better municipal services and support future development in the Karachi town.
Chairman Dr Fauad Ahmed also described the partnership as an important opportunity for Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
He said Turkish municipalities have made significant progress in local governance and urban development, creating models that Pakistani local governments can study and adapt.
The agreement could also encourage future exchanges involving municipal officials, planners and technical experts.
Such cooperation could help local authorities identify practical solutions for problems involving infrastructure, public spaces and service delivery.
