GUJRANWALA: Police have arrested a husband who assaulted his pregnant wife after an ultrasound showed that she was expecting a baby girl.
Police detained Tayyab Manan from WAPDA Town after his wife that he attacked her because he did not want another daughter.
The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Sadar police station. The woman’s father filed a complaint, stating that his daughter, Urooj, already had one daughter and was six months pregnant.
He alleged that Tayyab became furious after discovering through an ultrasound that the unborn child was also a girl. Urooj told police that her husband pressured her to terminate the pregnancy. After she refused, he allegedly kicked her in the abdomen while members of his family watched.
Police said they were investigating the allegations and recording statements from both the complainant and suspect.
In a separate case, investigators probing the alleged murder of 18-year-old Maham have reported evidence of sexual abuse inside her family home.
Police alleged that Maham was sexually abused by her father and two brothers. Her initial postmortem reportedly indicated signs of sexual abuse.
Investigators said Maham’s mother died when she was an infant, after which her paternal aunt raised her. Police alleged the abuse began while she lived with her aunt and continued after she returned to her father’s home.
Police further alleged that she was repeatedly tortured with a heated iron rod. Investigators said she died while allegedly being tortured by the suspects.
