ISLAMABAD: An official Independence Day advertisement by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has come under heavy criticism for excluding images of Pakistan’s founding fathers, including Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
The ad, released on August 14, prominently featured photos of the military leadership, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and President Asif Ali Zardari, but made no mention of the country’s ideological leaders.
Former senator Mushahid Hussain Syed posted the ad on X (formerly Twitter), calling the omission “shameful” and noting that those in power today owe their positions to the struggle and sacrifices of Jinnah. Former federal minister Shireen Mazari also condemned the move, describing it as a “clear omission.”
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) criticized the ad on its official X account, saying it marked a “shameful journey from minus Imran Khan mentality to minus Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.”
Former federal minister Shireen Mazari also criticised the advertisement, writing that the absence of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the official advertisement is a clear omission.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf also posted a picture of the advertisement on its official X account and said it was a shameful journey from minus Imran Khan mentality to minus Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
