To support this initiative, a specialised application has been developed which will facilitate comprehensive tracking, tracing, and auditing of Toshakhana assets. The Cabinet Committee has completed its review and finalised recommendations concerning the Toshakhana regulations, which are now ready to be submitted to the federal cabinet for approval. This will pave the way for formal adoption and implementation of the new procedures.
The digitisation project follows the Toshakhana scandal, which brought to light weaknesses in the existing system and the need for stricter controls and accountability mechanisms.
Recognising this, the federal government has prioritized establishing a more reliable and transparent framework to manage Toshakhana affairs. The new digital inventory system will make it easier to maintain accurate records and enable authorities to carry out regular audits to prevent misuse or mismanagement.
The development of this digital application has been carried out in collaboration with the Punjab Home Department, showcasing interdepartmental coordination to strengthen governance and accountability.
According to the Cabinet Division, the automated Toshakhana system is expected to become operational very soon, marking a significant milestone in modernizing asset management in the government sector.
In an additional move to promote transparency, the Cabinet Division has already made available the records of gifts received up to the year 2024 on its official website.
This step allows public access to the Toshakhana inventory data, further reinforcing the governmentโs commitment to openness and integrity in the handling of official gifts.
