The federal government has removed the five-litre petrol purchase limit under its fuel relief scheme.
Beneficiaries can now receive the weekly Rs500 discount even when buying less than five litres of petrol.
Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima announced the changes at a press conference.
Three Major Changes Announced
Fatima said the government introduced three key changes to make the scheme accessible to more citizens.
First, all motorcycles and three-wheelers registered on or after January 1, 2006, can now register for the scheme.
Second, the five-litre limit linked to each fuel token has been removed.
Third, citizens will no longer pay charges for registration messages sent through SMS.
The government has also removed all fees associated with the relief scheme.
Nearly 1.5 Million Fuel Tokens Issued
Fatima said 1,493,848 fuel tokens have been issued to citizens so far.
Of these, 655,067 people have already received the fuel relief.
She said motorcycles and three-wheelers account for 91.6 percent of all registrations.
Vehicles with engines up to 800cc represent the remaining 8.4 percent.
The implementation committee is meeting three times daily to monitor the scheme.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also closely monitoring its implementation and has directed officials to resolve problems quickly.
Rs100 Per Litre Relief for Eligible Vehicles
The government is providing Rs100 per litre relief for eligible vehicles with engines up to 800cc.
Fatima said the changes were introduced amid rising international oil prices and regional tensions.
The government had previously considered different options before extending the relief to motorcycles and three-wheelers.
How Citizens Can Register
Citizens can register by sending an SMS to 9771.
They need to provide their 13-digit CNIC number, the first word of their vehicle’s registered province, and vehicle registration details.
Complaints about petrol pumps can be submitted through 9772.
Cases involving petrol pumps refusing to provide the relief can be reported through 9771.
The minister warned citizens against sharing their CNIC or registration information with others.
She also urged beneficiaries to report anyone demanding money for registration or receiving the relief.
