The government increased fuel prices across the country on Thursday amid global market changes.
Rising Persian Gulf Tensions Drive Fuel Prices Up
The price of petrol rose by Rs 4.40 per litre. High-speed diesel prices increased by Rs 3.62 per litre. Now, petrol costs Rs 331.52 per litre. Diesel reaches Rs 378.66 per litre. Taxes account for Rs 110 on petrol and Rs 96 on diesel. Official sources confirm the new rates take effect on Friday.
Middle East conflict continuously drives global oil fluctuations. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced daily fuel price revisions. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority now handles these daily updates.
Previous weekly adjustments failed to stabilize volatile markets. April peak prices reached Rs 520.35 for diesel and Rs 458.41 for petrol. The current daily pricing model replaces previous weekly fuel announcements.
Daily Price Revisions Trigger Strong Local Opposition
The All Pakistan Dealers Association strongly rejects daily fuel price changes. Dealers currently plan protest actions for later this week. Furthermore, higher petrol rates directly hit middle-class families. Everyday commuters and small vehicle owners face higher daily travel expenses.
Meanwhile, commercial transport operators face severe financial pressure from diesel hikes. Heavy transport, power plants, and large generators consume massive diesel volumes. Monthly sales for both fuels reach nearly 800,000 tonnes. Consequently, these major revenues support government targets while consumers feel the pinch.
