The federal government has increased petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices again, effective from Wednesday, September 9.
Petrol has become Rs5.58 more expensive per litre, while the price of HSD has risen by Rs4.18.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division on Tuesday, OGRA revised petroleum prices.
The authority adjusted the ex-depot prices under the government’s existing petroleum pricing mechanism.
Following the latest revision, petrol will now cost Rs364.35 per litre.
Previously, the petrol price stood at Rs358.77 per litre.
Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel has increased from Rs381.77 to Rs385.95 per litre.
Petrol Price Rises by Rs5.58 Per Litre
The latest increase marks another significant change in petrol prices within a short period.
The government raised the petrol price by Rs5.58 per litre in its latest revision.
As a result, consumers will now pay Rs364.35 per litre for petrol.
However, the latest increase follows another major hike announced just one day earlier.
On Monday, the government had increased the petrol price by Rs12.90 per litre.
The price had consequently risen from Rs345.87 to Rs358.77 per litre.
The latest adjustment has pushed the petrol price even higher.
Diesel Price Also Increased
The government has also increased the price of high-speed diesel by Rs4.18 per litre.
The new diesel price stands at Rs385.95 per litre.
Previously, consumers were paying Rs381.77 per litre for HSD.
The latest increase follows a Rs3.72 per litre rise announced on Monday.
At that time, the diesel price increased from Rs378.05 to Rs381.77 per litre.
Therefore, both major petroleum products have recorded fresh increases within days.
Fuel Prices See Rapid Changes
The latest revision comes amid frequent changes in petroleum prices.
The government has adjusted fuel prices several times in recent days.
These changes reflect fluctuations in international oil prices and other cost factors.
However, the latest increase also reverses part of a recent reduction in petrol prices.
Last Friday, the government reduced petrol by Rs3.13 per litre.
Following that reduction, petrol fell from its previous level to Rs345.87 per litre.
At the same time, the government increased HSD by Rs3.74 per litre.
The diesel price consequently reached Rs378.05 per litre.
New Petrol Prices Take Effect From September 9
The revised petrol and diesel prices will take effect from Wednesday, September 9.
Under the latest notification, petrol will be available at Rs364.35 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel will cost Rs385.95 per litre.
The government continues to revise petroleum prices according to its pricing mechanism.
International oil market movements and other related cost factors influence these adjustments.
For consumers, the latest hike means another increase in fuel costs within a short period.
