The Shehbaz government is facing renewed political pressure as Jamaat-e-Islami and JUI-F announce fresh plans for political mobilisation.
Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has rejected the government’s recent petrol relief package as inadequate. He said the package came only because of growing public pressure.
Hafiz Naeem announced that JI would reveal the next phase of its protest campaign after October 7. The party is demanding the complete abolition of the petroleum levy.
JI Questions Government’s Petrol Relief Package
Addressing a press conference, Hafiz Naeem recalled that JI had postponed its September 21 march following an appeal from the prime minister.
According to him, the government had also assured the party leadership that a meeting would take place. However, the promised meeting has still not been held despite the prime minister’s return to the country.
Hafiz Naeem argued that the latest relief package would not adequately ease the difficulties faced by millions of motorcycle riders. He also highlighted the wider impact of rising prices on ordinary citizens.
He maintained that the complete abolition of the petroleum levy was the only lasting solution to the inflationary pressure linked to fuel costs.
The JI emir also questioned the silence of other political parties over additional taxes and the growing financial burden on the public.
He said Pakistan could no longer sustain separate systems for the country’s elite and ordinary citizens. Therefore, he called for measures that would address the concerns of people facing increasing economic pressure.
JUI-F Announces Multan Conference
Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has also announced a new phase of political activity against the government.
The party will hold a Mufti Mahmood Conference in Multan on October 15. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and other central and provincial leaders will address the gathering.
According to JUI-F spokesperson Aslam Ghauri, the conference will focus on several issues affecting the public.
These include inflation, lawlessness and unemployment, along with other concerns facing citizens. The party plans to use the gathering to highlight these issues and build political momentum.
Fazlur Rehman to Announce Next Protest Phase
Aslam Ghauri said Maulana Fazlur Rehman would announce the next phase of JUI-F’s protest movement during the Multan conference.
The announcement comes as JI prepares to outline its own protest strategy after October 7. Consequently, both parties are positioning themselves for renewed political activity over public and economic concerns.
For the government, the developments bring fresh political pressure from two religious-political parties. JI is focusing on the petroleum levy and public economic concerns, while JUI-F is preparing a wider political campaign.
With both parties announcing key dates, the coming weeks could bring greater political activity around inflation, taxation, unemployment and other public issues.
