The federal government has reduced petrol prices by Rs 3.19 per litre while increasing high-speed diesel rates by Rs 2.25, effective October 28, 2026.
Following the latest revision, petrol will cost Rs 376.06 per litre, whereas high-speed diesel will be available at Rs 398.07 per litre. The government continues to impose taxes and duties of Rs 114 per litre on petrol and Rs 100 per litre on diesel.
The revised rates come amid fluctuations in international oil markets and continued pressure on household budgets. Moreover, the government has introduced daily fuel price adjustments to reflect changes in global petroleum prices more quickly.
New Fuel Rates Take Effect
The latest decision provides some relief to petrol consumers, including motorcyclists and private vehicle owners. However, diesel users will face higher costs, potentially affecting transport operators, farmers and businesses that depend on diesel-powered vehicles and machinery.
Since diesel plays a major role in goods transportation, an increase could raise freight expenses and place additional pressure on prices of essential commodities. Nevertheless, the overall impact will depend on how transporters and businesses respond to the revised rates.
The government has previously introduced fuel relief measures for eligible motorcycle owners, rickshaw users and small-car owners to reduce the burden of rising petroleum costs.
Fuel Relief Discussions Continue
The latest price revision follows discussions between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman regarding public relief and the petroleum levy.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said a joint committee involving government and Jamaat-e-Islami representatives would examine proposals to expand the existing fuel relief scheme. The discussions aim to identify sustainable options for easing consumers’ financial difficulties.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded the abolition of the petroleum levy and warned that it could organise a march towards Islamabad in mid-November if the government fails to announce substantial relief.
The committee’s recommendations may influence future relief measures as authorities balance consumer needs with economic constraints.
