The government says Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s fuel relief scheme is designed to ease pressure from rising petroleum prices.
Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar said the prime minister is personally overseeing the scheme and its implementation.
The scheme targets motorcycles, motorcycle rickshaws and rickshaws, with eligibility extending to older vehicles under the announced criteria.
Millions Register for Fuel Relief Scheme
According to Atta Tarar, around 2.2 million people have registered for the relief scheme. He added that 1.9 million tokens had been issued.
The latest government information confirms that the scheme has attracted more than 1.75 million registrations. However, the figures have continued changing as registration remains underway.
The government has also taken steps to make the scheme easier to access. Registration and related processes continue through SMS, allowing people to use the system without requiring smartphones or internet access.
Which Vehicles Can Receive Relief?
Tarar said the prime minister had set eligibility criteria covering motorcycles, motorcycle rickshaws and rickshaws up to 20 years old.
According to the information provided, motorcycles and rickshaws registered after January 1, 2006, are eligible.
The government has separately announced targeted petrol relief for two- and three-wheelers. Eligible users can receive Rs500 weekly relief through fuel tokens.
Govt Warns Against Road Blockades
Meanwhile, Tarar also addressed concerns surrounding disruption to public movement in Islamabad.
He said the court had directed that roads must remain open and traffic flow must not be disrupted. Therefore, the government would follow the Islamabad High Court’s order.
Tarar said the government would not allow public life to be disrupted while implementing the court’s directions. He also stated that Islamabad’s roads would remain open.
The minister further said the government would not allow any violent mob to enter the federal capital.
Scheme Remains Under Government Oversight
The prime minister is overseeing the relief initiative as authorities continue working on its implementation.
Meanwhile, the government has introduced several measures to improve access for eligible beneficiaries. These include simplified registration and mechanisms for using fuel tokens at petrol stations.
As registrations continue, officials are also monitoring the distribution and use of fuel relief tokens. The government says the scheme aims to provide targeted support to people affected by higher petroleum prices.
For beneficiaries, the key focus now remains on accessing the promised relief without unnecessary hurdles. At the same time, authorities are stressing compliance with court directions and uninterrupted public movement in Islamabad.
