The federal government has decided to keep petroleum prices unchanged for Sunday and Monday. As a result, petrol and high-speed diesel will continue to be sold at their existing rates under Pakistanโs new daily fuel pricing mechanism.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, petrol will remain available at Rs335.18 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel (HSD) will continue to be sold at Rs383.46 per litre.
The Petroleum Division clarified the decision in its latest notification. It stated, โIn continuation of the press release issued on July 24, 2026, it is clarified that the following ex-depot prices of petroleum products for July 25, 2026, shall remain unchanged for July 26 and 27, 2026, due to non-publication of Platts prices on weekend.โ
Weekend Suspension Keeps Fuel Rates Unchanged
The announcement comes only a day after the government raised fuel prices under the newly introduced daily pricing mechanism.
On Saturday, petrol became Rs3.66 per litre more expensive. Likewise, the price of high-speed diesel increased by Rs4.80 per litre. Those increases marked the fifth consecutive rise since the government replaced the previous weekly pricing system with daily revisions.
However, the latest decision temporarily pauses the upward trend. Even so, motorists and businesses will continue paying the recently revised rates during the two-day period.
Fuel Prices Have Increased Sharply in One Week
Although prices will remain unchanged for two days, fuel costs have risen significantly over the past week.
During the last seven days, the price of petrol has increased by a cumulative Rs24.47 per litre. Similarly, high-speed diesel has recorded a much steeper cumulative increase of Rs60.16 per litre.
These increases have followed the implementation of Pakistanโs new petroleum pricing framework.
Daily Fuel Pricing Mechanism Explained
Last week, the government officially replaced the weekly petroleum pricing system with a daily pricing mechanism.
Under the revised framework, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has been authorised to determine ex-depot prices for petrol and high-speed diesel. The regulator now uses a rolling seven-day average of international oil prices to calculate daily fuel rates.
According to officials, the new mechanism allows faster adjustments whenever global oil prices fluctuate. In addition, they believe the revised system will make petroleum pricing more transparent.
Impact on Consumers and Key Sectors
Fuel prices continue to play a major role in Pakistanโs economy. High-speed diesel is widely used by the transport, agriculture and industrial sectors. Therefore, any change in diesel prices directly affects operating costs across these industries.
Likewise, petrol prices influence millions of private vehicle owners. They also affect public transport operators and daily commuters across the country.
For now, consumers will see no further change in fuel prices on July 26 and 27. Nevertheless, future adjustments will continue under the government’s daily petroleum pricing mechanism.
