A social media page has apologised to Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon after falsely linking him and his son to the Mir Raza Ali case.
The Facebook page Karachi Stories issued a clarification after publishing information concerning the senior minister.
The development comes days after Sharjeel Memon approached the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency over allegedly false social media content.
Karachi Stories Issues Apology
Karachi Stories apologised to Sharjeel Memon for publishing what it described as false and incorrect information concerning him.
The page also expressed regret over the publication of the report and its alleged connection to the Mir Raza Ali case. The clarification followed a complaint filed by Memon with the NCCIA on August 9.
The complaint concerned allegedly false and malicious content circulated through unknown social media accounts.
According to the complaint, the material targeted Memon and his son and allegedly sought to damage their reputation.
Claims Surrounding Mir Raza Ali Case
The complaint also addressed claims concerning the investigation into Mir Raza Ali’s case.
It alleged that claims about changes to the medical board were false.
The complaint further rejected allegations that efforts were made to obstruct the investigation into the case.
Memon requested the NCCIA to investigate the social media accounts involved in circulating the alleged content.
He also asked the agency to obtain IP logs and SIM data connected with the accounts.
Furthermore, the complaint requested relevant social media platforms and service providers to preserve available data and logs.
NCCIA Summons Four Individuals
Meanwhile, the NCCIA Karachi has summoned four individuals following Memon’s complaint.
The agency issued notices to Syed Abdullah, Amin Qureshi, Bilal Warisi and Ubaid Qureshi.
The notices direct the four individuals to appear at the NCCIA Karachi office at 11:30 am on August 13.
The summons relate to allegations involving defamatory and fabricated content concerning Memon.
According to the notices, the individuals must bring their original Computerised National Identity Cards.
They have also been directed to provide relevant evidence and documents during their appearance.
Additionally, the notices require them to bring their digital devices for examination.
Investigation Into Alleged Online Content
The complaint focuses on the alleged dissemination of fabricated and defamatory material through digital and social media platforms.
The NCCIA is now examining the allegations following Memon’s complaint. The agency’s notices indicate that the matter has moved into a formal investigative process.
