Russian drone and missile strikes killed eight people across Ukraine on Thursday as attacks intensified between Moscow and Kyiv. Six agricultural workers died in the east, while two people were killed in Kyiv during the barrage.
The strikes triggered air raid sirens and forced residents to seek shelter underground. The attacks followed appearances by Ukrainian and Russian officials at the United Nations, where both sides maintained their positions.
Deadly Attacks Hit Kyiv and Kharkiv
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was in New York seeking Western support, accused Russia of targeting civilian infrastructure. Meanwhile, the attacks raised concerns among Kyiv residents about winter disruptions to the country’s energy system.
Emergency services released images showing burnt-out vehicles and smouldering buildings in Kyiv following the strikes. Authorities said the barrage included ballistic missiles, while Prime Minister Sergiy Koretsky confirmed two deaths across the city.
In the Kharkiv region, a warehouse in Chuguiv district came under attack while employees sorted vegetables. The regional prosecutor’s office said six agricultural workers died in the strike.
Missile Attack Damages Agricultural Facility
Images from the facility showed apples scattered across the floor and a large hole in the roof. Officials said preliminary information indicated that Russian forces used a Banderol missile.
The Banderol is described as a low-cost hybrid weapon combining cruise missile and attack drone features. Russian forces have deployed the weapon extensively to overwhelm Ukrainian air defences.
The latest strikes came as both countries continued long-range attacks, reducing expectations for an immediate end to the fighting. Consequently, Ukrainian communities face renewed concerns over civilian safety and essential infrastructure as winter approaches.
