The Federal Public Service Commission has postponed tests for vacant professor positions at Islamabad’s Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. The decision followed a lack of interest from senior doctors seeking positions at the hospital.
The FPSC issued a public notice on Thursday announcing plans to readvertise the vacant positions. According to the commission, an insufficient number of candidates forced authorities to delay the scheduled recruitment tests.
Three Departments Receive No Applications
The commission said candidates showed limited interest across six professor categories. No applications arrived for three departments, including Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, and Pulmonology.
Meanwhile, only five applications were received collectively for Cardiac Surgery, Neonatology, and Pediatric Surgery. Therefore, the commission decided to postpone Phase III of the recruitment tests, which had been scheduled for this year.
The shortage of applicants has created difficulties for PIMS as it seeks to fill key senior positions. These professor posts play an important role in strengthening specialist medical services and supporting teaching responsibilities at the institution.
FPSC Announces New Recruitment Arrangement
Following the postponement, the FPSC will readvertise the vacant professor positions to attract additional candidates. The commission aims to provide more eligible doctors with an opportunity to apply for the available posts.
However, doctors who already submitted applications will not need to apply again. Their existing applications will remain valid under the revised recruitment process.
The FPSC did not provide a new date for the postponed tests in its Thursday notice. Instead, authorities will proceed with the readvertisement before announcing further details about the recruitment schedule.
The development highlights the challenge of attracting senior medical professionals to vacant positions at a major public-sector hospital. PIMS administration and the FPSC will now seek to increase applications before conducting the delayed recruitment tests.
