Heart-wrenching scenes of destruction continue to emerge from the flood-affected areas of Mandi Bahauddin, where the relentless waters of the River Chenab have wreaked havoc on villages, homes, and farmland. In Jago Kalan, a particularly tragic incident unfolded as floodwaters swept away the dowry items painstakingly collected by a laborer for his daughterโs wedding.
The family had gathered the items over several years, hoping to provide a modest but meaningful start to the daughterโs married life. In a matter of moments, the raging floodwaters destroyed all of their hard-earned possessions, leaving the family in shock and despair.
The affected woman appealed urgently to authorities for assistance, highlighting the severe human impact of the disaster. Families in Mandi Bahauddin are struggling not only to recover lost property but also to ensure basic survival as the flood crisis continues. Many households are now facing extreme hardship, having lost both personal belongings and vital sources of livelihood.
While the water level has reportedly dropped somewhat at Head Qadirabad, the floodwaters are still moving downstream, inundating nearby villages and exacerbating the crisis.
According to reports from SAMAA correspondent Diwan Adil, approximately 90 villages in the district have been badly affected. Numerous homes have collapsed under the pressure of rising water, and thousands of acres of standing crops have been destroyed, further threatening food security and local incomes.
Despite the scale of devastation, official relief efforts have been limited, leaving residents to carry out rescue and evacuation operations largely on their own. Authorities have stated that ground access to several affected areas has been restored, and more than 2,900 people have so far been relocated to safe locations.
However, with floodwaters still flowing and additional rains possible, the situation remains precarious. Families like those in Jago Kalan face an uncertain future, highlighting the urgent need for sustained relief, rehabilitation, and support to help communities rebuild their lives after the disaster.
