At least two people lost their lives and two others went missing after torrential rain and flash floods struck parts of Mansehra and Battagram districts on Thursday. The floods inundated roads, damaged homes, and swept away livestock across affected areas.
Heavy rain accompanied by hail hit Mansehra city and nearby localities shortly before sunset. As a result, roads flooded rapidly and several neighborhoods turned into pools of water.
Woman and Child Swept Away in Mansehra
During the downpour, a woman and a child were swept into a drain on Akbar Khan Road. Rescue teams immediately launched a search operation in the area.
Officials later recovered the woman’s body near Lari Adda. However, rescue workers continued efforts to locate the missing child as the search operation remained underway.
Meanwhile, severe flooding also affected the Kund area of Allai tehsil in Battagram district. Authorities reported that a five-year-old boy died after floodwaters swept through the area.
Homes and Livestock Damaged by Floods
A seven-year-old girl was also swept away by the rushing water and remained missing. Rescue personnel and local residents continued search efforts despite challenging conditions.
Battagram police said flash floods destroyed 15 houses and caused damage to several shops and residential buildings. In addition, floodwaters washed away livestock, increasing losses for affected families.
The district administration dispatched heavy machinery and rescue teams to support emergency operations. Authorities worked alongside local residents to clear affected areas and assist families impacted by the disaster.
Relief and rescue activities continued late into the evening as officials assessed damage and searched for missing individuals. Authorities also urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious amid the risk of further rainfall.
