Five personnel were killed in two separate firing incidents in Dera Ismail Khan on Tuesday. The attacks targeted four Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials and a highway traffic police officer.
Police said unidentified attackers carried out both attacks. Security teams quickly moved to the affected areas after the shootings.
Four FBR Officials Targeted Near Qureshi Morr
Dera Ismail Khan District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmad said gunmen targeted four FBR officials near Qureshi Morr.
Two of the four officials worked with the FBR on a contractual basis. The attackers opened fire before fleeing the area.
Police immediately cordoned off the location. They also launched a search operation to trace those responsible for the attack.
Traffic Police Officer Killed in Second Attack
The second incident took place near Mufti Mahmood Chowk Bypass.
Unidentified attackers opened fire on a highway traffic police vehicle. The firing killed the officer who was driving the vehicle.
Another police official suffered injuries in the attack. Rescue teams shifted the injured officer to the District Headquarters Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
Senior police officials later visited the hospital. They also reviewed the security situation and the response to the attacks.
Interior Minister Condemns Attacks
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attacks and expressed condolences to the families of the five personnel.
Naqvi said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the province most affected by terrorism. He said such attacks would not weaken the country’s resolve against terrorism.
Meanwhile, police continued search operations in the area. Authorities are working to identify the attackers and determine their motive.
The latest violence adds to security concerns in Dera Ismail Khan and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces continue operations against militant threats.
