KARACHI: The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP), South Zone Karachi, has established a modern Driving Licensing Authority (DLA) Facilitation Centre at the DIG Office, South Zone, located on M-9. The centre was formally inaugurated by Additional Inspector General South Region, Javed Akbar Riaz, Sitara-e-Imtiaz.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior NHMP officers and distinguished personalities, including legendary squash player Jahangir Khan and renowned artist Jimmy Engineer.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional IG Javed Akbar Riaz said that the establishment of the DLA Facilitation Centre is an important step towards providing citizens with modern, transparent and merit-based driving licensing facilities. Initially, driving licences for motorcycles, cars, jeeps and LTVs will be facilitated at the centre.
He stated that a standardized driving licensing system will play an important role in promoting safe driving, compliance with traffic laws and a responsible traffic culture.
The modern technology-based system will ensure greater transparency, efficiency and convenience throughout the licensing process.
Squash legend Jahangir Khan appreciated the initiative and said that the modern licensing centre is a valuable facility for the people of Karachi and Sindh.
Meanwhile, Additional IG South Region Javed Akbar Riaz also inaugurated the newly established Operational Monitoring Centre at the Zonal Office, South Zone Karachi. He was briefed on the modern monitoring system and operational functioning of the centre.
The new Operational Monitoring Centre will further enhance the NHMP’s operational monitoring, coordination and timely response, thereby contributing to more effective traffic management and public safety.
