RAWALPINDI: An FIA anti-human trafficking team was attacked and held hostage when they attempted to arrest a wanted suspect in Rawalpindi’s Ratta Amral area.
The concerned police have registered a case against the suspect, a former local government official and others over the attack on FIA team. The suspects allegedly assaulted the team members, threatened to kill them at gunpoint and resisted their arrest operation. Police said Ratta Amral police registered the case following a complaint by Inspector Fahad Iqbal of the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Cell, Islamabad Zone.
FIA Team Faces Alleged Violence
According to the complaint, Inspector Fahad Iqbal, female Assistant Sub-Inspector Ghazala Shaheen and FC official Aqib Mahmood reached the area to arrest suspect Hamza Arif.
However, Hamza Arif, former nazim Hafiz Abdullah Butt and several others allegedly resisted the FIA team. The suspects allegedly held all three officials hostage, including the female officer, during the confrontation.
Furthermore, the suspects allegedly attacked the FIA officials with sticks, fists and rods. The violence left members of the FIA team injured, while the suspects allegedly misbehaved with the female officer. The complainant further alleged that the suspects threatened to kill the FIA officials at gunpoint.
Police Launch Investigation Into Incident
Inspector Fahad Iqbal alleged that the suspects attempted to kill members of the FIA team during the confrontation. Therefore, he requested police to register cases against everyone allegedly involved in the incident. He also asked authorities to proceed against the suspects without considering any outside influence. The FIA official attached medical reports documenting the injuries sustained by the team members with his application.
Meanwhile, police officials confirmed that authorities registered the case based on Inspector Fahad Iqbal’s complaint. They added that investigators were examining the allegations and gathering evidence related to the incident. Further action will follow the investigation and findings of the authorities.
