The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has stopped three passengers at Multan International Airport over an alleged plan to travel illegally to Europe through Azerbaijan. Immigration officials flagged their travel profiles during clearance and referred them for further questioning.
The passengers were scheduled to fly from Multan to Azerbaijan aboard FlyDubai flight FZ-326. However, officers noticed suspicious details in their travel profiles and conducted a detailed examination.
The FIA identified the passengers as Hafiz Muhammad Asif, Tariq Bashir and Muhammad Ilyas. Subsequent questioning and an examination of their mobile phone messages reportedly revealed plans to reach European destinations through an irregular route.
How FIA Uncovered the Alleged Travel Plan
During immigration clearance, officials identified concerns about the three passengers’ travel arrangements. Consequently, they referred the travellers for detailed interviews and further investigation.
According to preliminary findings, the passengers planned to travel from Azerbaijan to Serbia and other European countries illegally. Investigators examined their mobile phone messages and questioned them to establish the details of the alleged arrangement.
The inquiry reportedly revealed that the passengers had contacted travel agents in Vehari to arrange their visas and tickets. The three men told investigators they had paid the agents Rs600,000 for these services.
Moreover, the passengers said they would pay the remaining amount after reaching their destination. Authorities are investigating the arrangements and the alleged involvement of the travel agents.
Passengers Handed Over for Further Investigation
Following the initial inquiry, immigration officials handed the three passengers over to the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Multan. The unit will conduct further investigations and determine the appropriate legal action.
Investigators are expected to examine the alleged travel arrangements, payments and the role of the agents involved. However, the investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations require further verification.
The incident highlights the FIA’s efforts to identify suspected irregular migration attempts during airport immigration checks. Authorities are continuing their investigation to establish how the proposed journey was arranged and whether other individuals were involved.
