Police Recover Body After Hours-Long Search Operation in Rawalpindi
A 28-year-old female biker and social media creator, Komal Jan, died after falling into the Soan River near Defence Phase One in Rawalpindi, police said on Thursday.
According to police, emergency services received a call reporting that a woman had fallen into the river near a bridge in the area.
Police teams immediately reached the location and started a search operation.
Officials searched the river and surrounding area for several hours before recovering the woman’s body.
The deceased was later identified as Komal Jan.
Police also found her motorcycle parked near the riverbank.
Her handbag, helmet and one mobile phone were reportedly found on or near the motorcycle.
Sources said Komal Jan worked for the Election Commission of Pakistan.
She was also known for her interest in heavy motorcycles and regularly created content for social media platforms.
Police Say TikTok Recording May Have Led to Fatal Fall
Initial police investigation suggested that Komal Jan fell into the Soan River while recording a TikTok video.
Investigators recovered two mobile phones as part of the inquiry.
Police said one phone was found inside her handbag, which had been left with her motorcycle.
The second phone was reportedly being used by Komal to record a social media video shortly before she fell into the river.
Officials are examining the available evidence to establish the exact sequence of events leading to her death.
Police have also recorded preliminary statements from eyewitnesses who were present in or around the area.
Investigators are using those statements along with physical evidence recovered from the scene.
Police said Komal had spoken to members of her family shortly before the incident.
No immediate evidence of foul play has been reported.
Family Describes Death as Accident, Police Continue Investigation
Police said Komal Jan’s family has not raised suspicion against any individual in connection with her death.
Her relatives reportedly told investigators that they considered the incident an accident.
According to sources, the family also informed police that they did not intend to pursue legal action against anyone.
Despite the family’s position, police continued their investigation to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials said all available evidence would be examined before the inquiry is concluded.
Komal’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination as part of the standard investigation process.
After completion of the medical examination, the body was handed over to her family for burial.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers associated with recording social media content near rivers, bridges and other hazardous locations.
Police are expected to complete their investigation after reviewing witness statements and evidence recovered from Komal Jan’s mobile phones.
