The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced financial assistance of Rs1 million for the family of each child killed in the Peshawar school roof collapse. The government will also provide Rs200,000 to each injured person.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi announced the compensation during a visit to the school in Dir Colony, Peshawar. He expressed grief over the loss of young lives and promised a transparent investigation into the incident.
Investigation to Identify Those Responsible
Kundi said investigators would examine the role of the school owner and relevant government departments. He also questioned who had issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the deteriorating school building.
The governor alleged that school safety audits had not been conducted properly under the previous government. He said authorities would determine responsibility and take action against anyone found negligent.
According to the governor, the investigation was expected to be completed within four days. He stressed that the process must go beyond forming a committee and establish the facts behind the collapse.
School Owner Arrested as Probe Continues
Police have arrested school owner Khan Muhammad following the deadly incident. A case has also been registered against the owners, shareholders and construction contractor over alleged construction defects and ignored safety concerns.
The roof collapse at a private school in Peshawar’s Dir Colony killed 30 children and a female teacher, while 52 people were injured, according to the report.
The tragedy has raised serious concerns about building standards and safety oversight at private educational institutions. Authorities are also facing calls to strengthen inspections and prevent similar incidents.
The investigation will examine whether warnings about the building’s condition were ignored and whether any officials failed to enforce safety requirements. The government has pledged to hold those responsible accountable in accordance with the law.
