Punjab authorities have flagged 16 medicines after inspections and laboratory tests raised concerns about their quality and authenticity. The identified products include medicines classified as substandard, adulterated, or counterfeit.
Officials recovered the medicines from medical stores in Lahore and other parts of Punjab. Subsequently, Drug Testing Laboratory reports found that certain batches had failed quality standards or were identified as fake.
Which Medicines Have Been Flagged?
The affected products cover several types of medicines used for different health conditions. These include treatments for asthma and allergy symptoms, blood clot prevention, vitamin B deficiency and nerve-related problems.
Medicines used to relieve muscle spasms were also included among the flagged products. Therefore, authorities have ordered action against the affected batches following the laboratory findings.
The testing also identified a potentially harmful chemical above the permitted limit in a syrup used for breathing problems and cough.
Veterinary Medicines Also Raise Concerns
The alert also covers medicines intended for veterinary use. Among the flagged products are a vaccine for lumpy skin disease and a medicine used to treat various bacterial diseases in animals.
These products were also identified during the inspection and testing process. As a result, the authorities have included them in the warning over medicines that failed to meet required standards.
Two Injection Batches Placed on Hold
Separately, authorities have placed two batches of an injection on hold while further investigation continues.
The injection is used to treat inflammation and severe allergic reactions. The hold means the affected batches remain subject to further examination before any additional action is taken.
Authorities Order Immediate Suspension
Punjab authorities have directed medical stores and relevant users to immediately stop selling and using the affected medicines.
The order follows laboratory findings concerning specific batches and products. Consequently, the authorities are taking steps to prevent the continued circulation or use of medicines identified as substandard, adulterated or counterfeit.
The latest alert highlights the importance of quality checks for medicines distributed through medical stores across Punjab. Meanwhile, further investigation will determine the status of the batches placed on hold.
