Four journalists nominated as members of the Press Council of Pakistan for a three-year term

ISLAMABAD: Four senior journalists have been nominated as members of the Press Council of Pakistan for a 3-year term.

The federal government has nominated four senior journalists _ Aamir Latif, Bachal Leghari, Nasir Zaidi, and Moin Azhar as members of the Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) for a three-year term, according to an official notification.

They will serve as members of the PCP from August 2, 2024, to August 2027.

Aamir Latif shared the notification of his nomination as a member of the Press Council of Pakistan. Arshad Khan Jadoon, chairman of the PCP signed the notification on August 5, 2024.

Aamir Latif is currently working as the Pakistan correspondent for the Turkish state news agency Anadolu Agency. He is a former Secretary of the Karachi Press Club. He has been nominated as a PCP member for a second term.

He is also a member of the Executive Board of the East-West Center Hawaii Alumni. Latif has also served as the President and Secretary of the Karachi Union of Journalists.

He possesses a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of Karachi, and a diploma in Media and Public Affairs from George Washington University.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Press Council of Pakistan (PCP), Arshad Khan Jadoon, stated that the Council is working with all stakeholders to safeguard freedom of expression and uphold media ethics.

This was conveyed during a meeting with a delegation from the Pakistan Bar Council, which included Haleem Abbasi, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Islamabad Bar Council; Zulfiqar Abbasi, Chairman of the Discipline Committee; Qazi Adil, Vice Chairman of the Islamabad Bar Council; Qamar Sabzwari, Chairman of the Human Rights Committee; and Naseer Ahmed Kiyani, Chairman of the Enrollment Committee.

During the meeting, Chairman Jadoon emphasized that the issues facing the journalist community would be prioritized. He also briefed the delegation on the Press Council’s objectives and mission.
