Bank Al-Falah’s positive U-Turn: Now the BAFL allows donations for Palestine

Bank Al-Falah’s positive U-Turn

ISLAMABAD: Bank Al-Falah Limited (BAFL) took a positive U-turn and allowed Pakistanis to deposit donations for Palestine.

The bank took the decision after facing a lot of condemnation and criticism for its earlier decision “NOT TO ACCEPT” donations for Palestine.

A few bankers working with BAFL told The Truth International (TTI) that their bank earlier directed them not to receive donations for Palestine throughout its branches in Pakistan.

However, when the issue became viral on social media and several people not only condemned the bank but some of the account holders asked BAFL to close their accounts.

Therefore, seeing a massive reaction the management of the Bank Al-Falah Limited took a positive U-turn and allowed its branches to receive donations for Palestine.

In a new circular, BAFL said, “Bank Al-Falah would like to address the misunderstanding created by the internal memo that has been circulating on social media. The misleading impression created that banks have been instructed to stop accepting donations that is absolutely incorrect. In Pakistan, operational accounts of embassies are restricted from receiving donations; instead, contributions should be directed to legally permissible donation accounts.”

Therefore, Bank Al-Falah remains committed to enabling donations from people in Pakistan in accordance with the law to appropriate authorized accounts that are designated for the purpose of donations.

Earlier, earlier boycott Bank Al Falah has emerged as a top trend of social media as the BAFL has refused to accept donations for Palestine in Pakistan.

The bank has sent a message to its branches informing them about its decision not to accept donations for Palestine. The bank sent this circular on Nov 3, 2023.

This policy of the BAFL has baffled account holders of the bank and they have taken the matter to social media to mop up public support. Below is the Nov 3, 2023, internal memo of the BAFL that has gone viral on social media, leaving bank management no other choice but to take back its decision.

In its circular, BAFL said, “With immediate effect, all BAFL branches are advised not to accept any donation funds in favor of the following accounts: Embassy of the State of Palestine. The bank has also mentioned the account numbers of Palestine’s Embassy in Pakistan in its internal memo.

An account holder has cut into pieces his Bank Al Falah cards, shared them on X network, and said he has filed an application with the bank to close his account. He also appealed to the people to boycott this bank for its pro-Jewish policies.

Meanwhile, famous actress Mishi Khan was shocked to hear about the Bank Al Falah’s decision not to accept donations.

How the bank can discourage donations to Palestine which is going through the deadliest bombing in Gaza? More than 10500 people have been killed in Gaza bombing by Israel.
