TikTok, a popular video-sharing social networking service, removed approximately 11.7 million videos uploaded from Pakistan. In the first quarter of 2023, the platform removed the videos due to violations of its community guidelines. This action is part of TikTok’s strategy to combat misinformation and create a safe environment for its users.
Globally, TikTok removed over 91 million videos during the same period, constituting around 0.6% of the total videos uploaded worldwide. In the fourth quarter of 2022, the platform removed over 85.68 million videos, representing a slight decrease compared to this figure in the first quarter of 2023.
In Pakistan, the platform successfully removed 83% of the violating videos before reaching any viewers. Moreover, almost 92.2% of such content was eliminated within a day during the first quarter of 2023. This shows an improvement from the proactive removal rates in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Furthermore, TikTok removed 16.94 million accounts suspected to belong to users under the age of 13 globally. It aims to prioritize the safety of young users. The platform also removed approximately 51.29 million fake accounts during the same period to counter fraudulent activity.
Aside from tackling community guideline violations, TikTok actively targets spam accounts and related content. It is also taking preventive measures to automatically block the creation of such accounts.
