Thai Authorities Issue Strict Warning to ‘Jurassic World’ Producers

Thai authorities have issued a stern caution to the producers of the next “Jurassic World” installment, urging them to ensure the preservation of beaches and national parks during filming in the kingdom. It’s been reported that Hollywood icon Scarlett Johansson is being considered for a lead role in the seventh installment of the popular dinosaur franchise.

Filming for segments of the upcoming movie, yet to be titled but scheduled for release next year, will occur in Bangkok and various national parks across Krabi, Phuket, Phang-nga, and Trang, commencing next week and extending into July. Among the picturesque locales chosen are Ko Kradan island off the western coast and Huay To waterfall in Khao Phanom Bencha National Park.

Phatcharavat Wongsuwan, Thailand’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, expressed the country’s gratitude for hosting the production but emphasized the imperative of adhering to laws and regulations to safeguard natural resources and the environment. This advisory follows over two decades after the filming of “The Beach,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, faced backlash for its environmental impact on Maya Bay in southern Thailand.

Athapol Charoenshunsa, the head of the Department of National Parks, underscored their commitment to overseeing filming activities closely, drawing lessons from past experiences.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scarlett Johansson, aged 39, is reportedly in discussions to star in the upcoming dinosaur movie, helmed by British director Gareth Edwards. Edwards, known for his 2023 sci-fi action film “The Creator,” also chose Thailand as a shooting location for parts of his previous work.

The original 1993 “Jurassic Park,” adapted from Michael Crichton’s novel and directed by Steven Spielberg, garnered massive success, as did the 2015 reboot “Jurassic World.”
