Russian actress Kamilla Belyatskaya tragically lost her life after being swept off a cliff by a massive wave while practicing yoga in Thailand.
The incident occurred at the Lad Ko viewpoint on Koh Samui, which overlooks the Gulf of Thailand, leaving onlookers in shock and rescuers struggling in difficult conditions.
A video of the incident has emerged on social media. The 24-year-old was on holiday with her boyfriend when the tragedy struck. On Friday afternoon, she was meditating on a pink yoga mat near the rocky shore when a towering wave suddenly engulfed her, as captured in alarming footage shared by local media. Despite a brave attempt by a bystander to save her, the force of the turbulent waters proved too strong.
Rescue teams arrived approximately 15 minutes after the incident but faced enormous challenges due to waves reaching up to nine feet, which hampered their search efforts.
Belyatskaya’s body was eventually found a kilometer from the viewpoint, with her pink yoga mat being the only sign left at the scene.
Chaiyaporn Subprasert, head of the Samui Rescue Centre, emphasized that tourists are frequently warned about the dangers of the monsoon season.
“We continuously alert visitors, especially in high-risk areas like Chaweng and Lamai beaches, where red flags indicate swimming is prohibited,” he told Khaosad English.
In response to the tragedy, authorities have closed off access to the rocky areas below the viewpoint to prevent further incidents.
