Pakistan’s Crescent Collective
LONDON: In a landmark achievement, Pakistan is poised to unveil its inaugural central hub at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival, scheduled from May 14 to 20.
Spearheaded by Modoxy Media, the Pakistan Crescent Collective is set to emerge as the country’s premier platform, aiming to unearth and foster emerging talent, preserve cinematic heritage, and showcase Pakistani and diaspora films on a global stage.
Pakistan has recently left a significant imprint on the Cannes landscape, marked by notable successes such as the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize winner “Joyland” in 2022 and last year’s entry “In Flames” in the Director’s Fortnight section, both serving as Pakistan’s official submissions to the Academy Awards.
With the launch of the Pakistan Crescent Collective, the nation endeavors to build upon this momentum, unveiling an ambitious agenda for the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
This includes a filmmaker panel discussion and event post the marche preview screening of the highly anticipated “The Glassworker,” a groundbreaking venture for Pakistani cinema, drawing inspiration from the revered Studio Ghibli with its traditional hand-painted 2D animation.
Moreover, the collective is poised to co-host the inauguration and reception for the world’s pioneering South Asian Film Market, initiated by the Oscar-qualifying Tasveer Film Festival.
Tasveer and the Pakistan Crescent Collective will jointly organize an exclusive speed networking event on the American Pavilion Terrace, offering select filmmaking teams a unique opportunity to pitch their projects to established financiers and funders.
Mohammed Ali Naqvi, the visionary behind Modoxy Media, underscored the pivotal role of the Pakistan Crescent Collective, stressing its importance as a platform dedicated to championing Pakistani cinema and talent on both domestic and international fronts.
Naqvi expressed his fervent belief in celebrating Pakistan’s cinematic prowess and fostering a vibrant industry landscape that resonates globally.
