U.S.-based rapper Nicki Minaj is facing a $5 million lawsuit from a longtime superfan, Tameer Peak, who claims to have suffered defamation and emotional distress.
Peak, a 28-year-old resident of New Jersey, had been a devoted follower of Minaj for 15 years and even assisted in promoting her album Pink Friday 2 last year. However, Peak has now turned against the rapper, alleging that she caused him public humiliation and harassment.
According to reports, Peak filed the defamation suit in Los Angeles Superior Court, seeking $5 million for alleged reputational harm, emotional distress, and financial loss.
The lawsuit accuses Minaj of inviting Peak to her hotel in 2017, where he was supposedly humiliated in front of 100,000 viewers and labeled a “paid mole” intended to sabotage her.
Peak also alleges that Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, physically assaulted him during Super Bowl LIV.
Previously an ardent supporter of Minaj, Peak claims that the rapper publicly branded him a “stalker” and accused him of making false statements about working for her. He further accuses Minaj of targeting him on social media, adding to his grievances.
In response, Minaj’s attorney, Judd Burstein, has characterized Peak’s lawsuit as baseless and retaliatory.
Burstein argued that Peak has been harassing Minaj on social media for years and is now attempting to exploit the situation for financial gain through what he describes as “manifestly false allegations” and “legally frivolous claims.”
Burstein also warned that Peak may face financial repercussions, including having to cover Minaj’s legal fees, as stipulated by California law.
