Malala Yousafzai Set to Appear in a More Vibrant, Humorous New Season of ‘We Are Lady Parts’

The British comedy series “We Are Lady Parts,” which focuses on the lives of an all-female Muslim punk band called Lady Parts, is set to make a comeback on Peacock for a second season.

Beginning May 30th, all six fresh episodes will be accessible on the streaming platform. Notably, this season’s guest stars include Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai and renowned British comedian Meera Syal.

The article highlighted that We Are Lady Parts, a new show, features creator Nida Manzoor’s personal experiences with cultural groups and artists in London. Led by a diverse cast, Anjana Vasan portrays the lead guitarist and PhD student Amina Hussain, while Sarah Kameela Impey takes on the role of the strong and mysterious lead singer, Saira.

Additionally, the ensemble includes Juliette Motamed, Faith Omole, Lucie Shorthouse, Aiysha Hart, Zaqi Ismail, and Shobu Kapoor, each bringing their unique talents to the production.

The pilot episode of “We Are Lady Parts” was released in 2018, preceding the debut of its complete six-episode Season 1 in 2021. This captivating show delves into the intricate personalities of its band members, while addressing themes such as friendship, family responsibilities, and the societal pressures faced by women.

In regards to creating season one of “We Are Lady Parts,” Manzoor expressed that it was a significant and transformative experience for her. She stated, “It was a trial by fire, but I discovered my voice, style, and confidence in crafting this show.”

Additionally, she mentioned, “I found my tribe – from actors and crew to producers and studio executives.” As a result of this strong foundation, Manzoor felt more empowered while working on the second season of her creation. She shared, “I was galvanized for season two. The characters, the world, the tone – everything was established and ready to be explored further. Our goal was to make it bolder, sillier, darker, and deeper, which we achieved.”

Manzoor revealed that the upcoming season of the show will delve deeper into the inner lives of all the female characters, as they face new, existential challenges while maintaining the humor, slapstick, and witty banter from the first season.

The director also mentioned the addition of more original music, with bigger and wilder tunes penned by her and her siblings, as well as improved cover songs.

In her creation, Manzoor aimed to build a world around the music industry and explore the concept of success for a punk band. She questioned whether fame, large-scale performances, and major record deals are the true answers, and delved into the uncomfortable tension between art and commerce, discussing the acceptable levels of compromise. Manzoor expressed her pride in the project and her eagerness to share it with both existing and new fans.

All six episodes of the first season of “We Are Lady Parts” can be found on Peacock. The show is produced by Working Title Television, which is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.
