Renowned wedding photographer hints at family tensions behind the split
Famed Pakistani wedding photographer Irfan Ahson has shed light on the much-talked-about split between Junaid Safdar, son of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz and his former wife, revealing that visible friction between the two families may have contributed to the marriage’s early end.
Appearing on a recent episode of a private news channel podcast, Ahson, who is known for capturing the weddings of Pakistan’s elite, spoke cautiously yet candidly about his experience covering the high-profile event.
Without revealing too many personal details, Ahson shared that the overall atmosphere during the celebrations raised red flags for him. “As a photographer, you’re an observer. You see how people interact, the energy, the chemistry or the lack of it,” he said. “There was a certain disconnect. The bride’s family just wasn’t blending in well.”
While he refrained from assigning blame or speculating too deeply, Ahson implied that strained dynamics between the families involved were hard to ignore. His remarks have since stirred fresh interest in the marriage, which had initially captured headlines for its grand scale, designer outfits, and celebrity guest list when it took place in 2021.
Reflecting on his personal interactions, Ahson was complimentary of the groom’s family. “Maryam Nawaz and her family were incredibly kind and welcoming. Junaid himself was polite, humble, and carried himself with grace,” he said.
Though neither Junaid Safdar nor his ex-wife has publicly discussed the separation, Ahson’s remarks are among the first from someone close to the celebrations to suggest that the cracks may have been visible early on.
