If a cricketer can become prime minister, surely an actor can as well, says Mehwish Hayat

The actor revealed her future career plans and said she has been inspired by the PTI’s politics in a recent interview.

Actor Mehwish Hayat is looking to newer horizons when it comes to her career path. In a recent interview, the actor revealed her aspirations to debut in Pakistan’s political arena and aim for the highest office in the land.

The actor — who has starred in movies such as Punjab Nahi Jaungi and Jawani Phir Nahi Ani — revealed her thoughts on politics on Aik Din Geo Ke Sath.

During a Q&A session with the host, the actor shared that her interest in politics has grown in the past few years. “It is something I want to pursue as a subject,” Hayat said passionately.

When the host asked the actor whether she intends to pursue a career in politics, the actor responded with a confident “InshaAllah”.

“Will you practice politics through the parliament or through a political party?” the host went on to ask. “The intention is to help bring positive change in the country,” Hayat answered with a smile. “Time will better tell whether that happens by entering parliament or by forming my own political party.”

The actor went on to talk about how she’s inspired by the politics of the PTI in particular. “I’m inspired by [their] politics because they’ve brought about good changes and a shift in societal thinking. Imran Khan was a cricketer before [he entered politics]. If a cricketer can become prime minister then surely an actress can also become one as well.”

When the host asked whether Hayat intends to challenge PM Imran for the prime minister’s position, the actor did not shy away from revealing her interest in becoming Pakistan’s next female premier.

“I don’t want to challenge him but someone is bound to take his place later on and I can also become a contender for the prime minister’s position,” she said spiritedly.

Hayat started acting as a child and has had a successful career in television ever since. She was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 2019 for her outstanding performance in Punjab Nahi Jaungi and the global impact her work has had in regard to Pakistan’s entertainment industry.
