‘Gunjal’ Director Clinches Debut Award at India’s Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival

In a momentous occasion at the esteemed 14th edition of the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival held in India’s capital, New Delhi, Pakistani director Shoaib Sultan received accolades as he was bestowed with the debut director award for his film ‘Gunjal’.

This recognition not only marks a significant milestone for Sultan personally but also signifies a noteworthy achievement for Pakistani cinema on the global stage.

The festival, renowned for its celebration of cinematic brilliance, served as a platform to showcase films from around the world, with Sultan’s work ‘Gunjal’ standing out among the array of entries.

Expressing his elation, Sultan remarked that the award signifies a significant step forward for Pakistani cinema, reflecting the talent and creativity prevalent within the industry.

‘Gunjal’, which premiered in Pakistani cinemas on December 15, 2023, has garnered widespread acclaim within the industry, boasting a stellar cast featuring renowned TV and film actors such as Ahmed Ali Akbar, Resham, and Amna Ilyas, among others.

The 14th edition of the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival, held on April 30, showcased a diverse selection of films from across the globe, with Shoaib Sultan’s directorial prowess shining through as he was honored with the Debut Director Award.

Sultan’s innovative storytelling and compelling narrative have captivated audiences both domestically and internationally, further solidifying his place in the cinematic realm.

Speaking from Saudi Arabia, where he currently resides, Sultan expressed his gratitude for the prestigious honor bestowed upon him.
