LAHORE: A wave of anti-Israel protests in Pakistan has escalated into violence, with international fast-food chains becoming key targets of public outrage. In a tragic incident, a KFC employee was shot and killed in Sheikhupura after unidentified attackers stormed the outlet.
The attack took place at a KFC branch at Bypass Chowk, within the jurisdiction of the Housing Colony Police Station. According to police and rescue sources, an unknown gunman entered the restaurant’s kitchen and opened fire on 45-year-old Asif Nawaz, a staff member from Khan Colony.
Despite swift efforts by Rescue 1122 to transport him to District Headquarters Hospital, Nawaz succumbed to his injuries.
In response, law enforcement and intelligence agencies launched a large-scale operation across Sheikhupura, conducting multiple raids and detaining several suspects. Authorities confirmed the incident is being investigated in the context of broader attacks on fast-food franchises, dismissing personal enmity as a motive.
Meanwhile, police in Karachi arrested two suspects, Mansoor and Muhammad Hassan, in connection with a separate violent incident targeting KFC and Domino’s outlets during an anti-Israel demonstration in the city’s Defence area. Police forces were deployed to manage the unrest.
