Fans of English singer Ed Sheeran were overjoyed on Saturday night as he surprised them by singing in Punjabi for the first time during a concert in Mumbai.
Indian singer Diljit Dosanjh shared his excitement on Instagram, exclaiming, “Brother singing in PANJABI for the first time BURRAAAA Chak deya Ga,” alongside a video of him performing with Sheeran. The duo delighted the crowd with a rendition of Dosanjh’s popular song “Lover.”
When Sheeran invited Dosanjh to join him on stage, the audience erupted in cheers and shouts of excitement. Together, they delivered a Punjabi version of Dosanjh’s hit track, much to the delight of the crowd.
Fans, both at the concert and on social media, expressed their happiness at this unexpected crossover. One Instagram user commented that it was “the crossover we never knew we needed,” while another remarked, “I think I have seen history in the making.” Many praised Sheeran’s flawless Punjabi rendition.
In a clip shared by Dosanjh, he can be seen visibly surprised as Sheeran joins him in singing the main lines of the song. Both artists later shared clips from the performance on their Instagram handles.
Reflecting on the experience, Sheeran wrote, “Got to bring out Diljit Dosanjh tonight in Mumbai and sing in Punjabi for the first time. I’ve had such an incredible time in India, more to come!”
