Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan finds herself embroiled in a legal battle as the Madhya Pradesh High Court serves her a notice in response to a petition filed by a citizen. The petitioner seeks the registration of a criminal case against Khan for using the word ‘Bible’ in the title of her book about pregnancy.
Khan’s book, titled ‘Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Pregnancy Bible: The ultimate manual for moms-to-be,’ was published in August 2021. However, advocate Christopher Anthony, the petitioner, contends that the book’s title has offended the religious sentiments of Christians. According to Anthony, the use of the word ‘Bible’ in the title was a deliberate attempt to garner cheap popularity and is considered objectionable.
Anthony’s efforts to seek legal action against Kareena Kapoor were initially unsuccessful. His plea to register a case against her was dismissed by both a local magistrate court and an additional sessions court. Despite his persistence, the courts found insufficient evidence to support his claims that the book’s title had caused offense to the Christian community.
Undeterred, Anthony has now turned to the High Court, where the case is scheduled for its next hearing on July 1. His quest for legal recourse underscores the sensitivity surrounding religious sentiments and the potential implications of cultural references in public discourse.
The controversy surrounding Kareena Kapoor’s book title highlights the complexities of navigating freedom of expression and religious sensitivities in a diverse society. As the legal proceedings unfold, the case serves as a reminder of the importance of respectful dialogue and understanding in matters concerning faith and cultural representation.
